It was a holly, jolly time this last week on the island of Tapawingo! Campers rolled right into Christmas in July on Sunday night by singing fun Christmas carols in the dinner line. From there, our Christmas-themed event hours made it a very merry week. Tuesday night, the campers competed in a game of “Capture the Presents,” racing across the island to see which team could find the most hidden presents. With red and green clothes, hair dye, and face paint, the girls were especially festive. Rain on Thursday moved event hour into the lodge where the girls enjoyed a game of jeopardy. In addition to regular cabin clean-up, extra points were awarded to cabins with impressive Christmas decorations. Arapahoe went above and beyond this week with the creation of a soccer-sized snow globe from the Craft Cabin, which was made with all the Christmas-themed craft supplies the Craft Cabin had to offer!
Sunny skies and warm weather made the campers’ favorite island activities particularly fun. From waterskiing to banana boating to sailing, the girls had a blast on the waters of Lake Pleasant! And they enjoyed many other activity areas, such as Archery, Bible, and Crafts.
Among our speakers for this week was the former Mets player Mickey Weston. He shared with the campers about mountain top experiences, how most of life takes place in the valley, and how important it is to know our God deeply through it all. Mickey focused on the story of Moses in Exodus 32. Moses was imperfect, but he was obedient; everything changed for him after beholding the glory of the Lord. We, too, can behold our God and be changed by His presence. Mickey challenged us to find our rest in our God who is perfectly loving and just.
That’s a wrap on Session 5! We’re excited for what God has in store for the remainder of the summer here on the Island of Joy.
